beHuman is building earlier, more accessible cancer detection using AI, automation, and a care model designed around real patients, not perfect systems, says Steve Yaskin, founder and CEO of the Miami-based startup launched last year.
“Most cancers aren’t missed because medicine lacks tools – they’re missed because the system makes prevention hard, fragmented, and late,” Yaskin shared on LinkedIn. “We’re trying to flip that.”
How? By using AI where it actually reduces friction, by using data where it actually shows up in time, and by designing care for people who don’t have the luxury of navigating a maze, continued Yaskin, a healthtech serial entrepreneur and investor. “beHuman was built to meet patients where they are, especially those in rural and underserved communities, by removing friction, restoring trust, and making prevention simple, accessible, and life-saving.”
Today beHuman announced it has raised $4 million in seed funding. The round was led by Santé Ventures, with participation from DHVP.io.
“beHuman is addressing one of healthcare’s most persistent gaps, late cancer detection among populations the system consistently misses. The team’s combination of physician leadership, thoughtful AI automation, and focus on trust and access positions them to deliver meaningful impact nationwide,” said Kevin Lalande, Founding Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer at Santé Ventures.
The startup integrates virtual clinical care, advanced diagnostic testing, and health data access to identify cancer risk and guide patients through appropriate screening pathways. Its agentic AI platform automates key administrative workflows while ensuring patient information is used solely to support care. beHuman says early results show that its cancer detection rates exceed national averages.
The platform is available in Florida, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and is covered by most insurance plans.
beHuman reports it will use the new funding to expand into additional states, to deepen partnerships with leading diagnostic laboratories, to advance its agentic AI platform to further streamline preventive care workflows, and to scale its virtual care team.
While competitors target affluent consumers, “beHuman is solving the problem of bridging the gap for the much, much larger but harder to reach population that lives in rural areas,” he said in an interview with MedCity News. “They don’t have a primary care physician, they are under-educated in what options they have, and we’re trying to make the same level of care available to them. And the second differentiator, I would say, for beHuman is that we are not cash-based. We figured out how to get in network with insurance companies, so we essentially offer the same services that larger competitors do at no cost to consumers.”
While beHuman is starting with cancer, it hopes to expand into other areas in the future, including cardiovascular disease, memory disorders and diabetes, Yaskin told MedCity News.
