Battery analytics startup Twaice secures €24 million - electrive.com


Twaice was founded in 2018 with the goal of bringing a predictive analytics solution for battery health to market, enabling forecasts about remaining lifespan and degradation—that is, the reduction in storage capacity. Initially, the company focused on traction batteries for electric cars, securing customers such as Audi and Mercedes-Benz.

A €24 million financing round from the European Investment Bank (EIB), in the form of a long-term loan secured through the InvestEU programme, is now set to accelerate Twaice’s growth. The company is targeting the rapidly expanding market for battery energy storage systems (BESS), which are used, for example, as intermediate storage for electricity from photovoltaic systems, as buffer storage for charging stations, or for peak shaving in industrial operations and backup power supplies.

According to Twaice, its predictive analytics allow battery developers to detect degradation early, optimise performance, and extend lifespan. This is crucial for reliable, safe, and cost-efficient electric storage solutions. By analysing extensive real-time and historical data, the company also expects to accelerate innovations in cell design, control software, and resource utilisation.

“The long-term financing from the EIB helps us further accelerate the growth we are already seeing,” says Dr. Stephan Rohr, Co-CEO of Twaice. “As storage operators expand their fleets, they need operations that scale with them. Based on deep battery expertise, we support teams in enhancing performance and profitability while significantly reducing manual effort.”

With the increasing share of solar and wind energy, demand for battery storage is growing, prompting more companies to enter the market—most recently, for example, Ford in the USA. Last summer, the startup Voltfang inaugurated a battery storage factory in Aachen. As Marc Sauthoff from Roland Berger recently stated at our electrive LIVE online conference, battery storage systems, along with bidirectional charging of electric vehicles, are key to the energy system of the future.

Twaice’s BESS business nearly tripled in 2025. However, the boom in stationary battery storage also brings new operational challenges: according to the findings of a new Twaice survey of BESS professionals, 45 percent of operators experience unexpected on-site issues at least once a month. Twaice aims to address this with its analytics software, which provides the foundation for real-time decision-making, predictive maintenance, and workflow automation.
