WordPress has launched a new AI assistant integrated directly into its site editor and media library, available to users on Business or Commerce plans at no additional cost.
As per the official announcement by WordPress, the tool is designed to help with site-wide structure, content editing, and design decisions without leaving the editor. Users can make requests such as changing layout styles, rewriting content, translating sections, or generating images, with changes appearing in real time.
Unlike standalone AI tools that require copy-pasting or external prompts, the assistant works inside the site and understands existing content and layout, according to the company.
The media library feature allows users to generate new images or make targeted edits to existing ones, using Nano Banana models. Users can specify aspect ratios and styles for more control.
A block notes feature introduced in WordPress 6.9 lets users collaborate with the AI by typing “@ai” in comments to fact-check content, generate headline ideas, or request examples, with answers drawing on site content and external sources, further explains WordPress.
The company emphasises in the announcement that the AI assistant is optional and must be enabled in site settings. Users who purchase a site built with WordPress’s AI website builder will have the assistant enabled automatically.
