Fintech startup Kiwi appoints Sumeet Basrani as CBO

Fintech startup Kiwi has appointed Sumeet Basrani as Chief Business Officer, strengthening its leadership team. The appointment comes as the company shifts its focus from early product adoption to large scale distribution of credit on UPI through bank and ecosystem partnerships.

Sumeet brings over 15 years of experience across cards and payments, having previously worked with organisations such as CRED, OneCard, ICICI Bank, and Visa. In his last role, he played a key role in building and scaling CREDโ€™s partnerships across credit cards, payments, and lending with banks and financial institutions.

For Kiwi, the next phase will focus on expanding the market by enabling access to credit on UPI for millions of Indians. The company is focused on transitioning from product strength to market scale while staying closely aligned with evolving consumer behaviour.

Speaking about his new role, Sumeet Basrani said that credit on UPI is at an inflection point, with early adoption already visible, and that the real opportunity lies in embedding credit seamlessly into everyday payments while expanding access.

Launched in 2022 by Siddharth Mehta, Mohit Bedi, and Anup Agrawal, Kiwi enables users to access RuPay credit cards on UPI, offering the flexibility of credit with UPIโ€™s widespread merchant acceptance.

In August last year, Kiwi scooped up$24 million in its Series B round from Vertex Ventures at a valuation of more than $100 million.
