Having virtually grown up in the medical supplies business, Peter McCann is starting a new venture in that familiar industry.

McCann and his partner Patrick Kiss are the co-founders of Healthcare Sales and Service, which just leased a 25,500-square-foot building on 2 acres at 150 Rodeo Drive in Edgewood. The pair is now busy preparing the facility for the fledgling firm’s warehousing and distributing operations.

“We’re going to supply everything from equipment to pharmaceuticals and everything you’d see in the doctor’s office,” McCann told LIBN. “We have a whole sales team coming aboard, and we’ll be stocking and shipping right from the warehouse.”

A former executive at Henry Schein, one of Long Island’s largest dental and medical supplies companies, it’s been a long road in the industry for McCann, who started out working for his father Peter’s medical supplies firm IDE Interstate as a 13-year-old.

“I was working the warehouse, sweeping floors and picking orders and then worked my way through middle school, high school, college, and then came on to help him run the company with his partner,” McCann said. He stayed at IDE until it was sold to Henry Schein in 1995.

McCann worked at Schein for about two more years before establishing Schueler Healthcare Products in 1997, which he sold in 2003. After that, he worked at the Darby Group in Westbury, which included Darby Medical Supply, Island Dental and Darby Dental Laboratory Supply, until those firms were also acquired by Henry Schein in 2006.

McCann then went back to Henry Schein until 2012, and later founded PMC Consulting, an independent industry consulting firm. In 2021, McCann became CEO of Growth Orthopedics, where McCann met his future business partner Kiss, a CPA who formerly worked at PwC.

And for McCann’s latest chapter, he joins Kiss in starting their new venture.

“The reason we started this business is to create the family culture that I grew up in, a family-run business,” McCann said. “You know, too often companies get large in scale, and they lose that personal touch. So, our motto is: ‘People you know, products you need.’”

Healthcare Sales and Service is set to officially open on Nov. 1, when the startup will aim for a piece of the growing medical supplies business. The global medical supplies market was valued at nearly $185 billion in 2024, according to Data Bridge Market Research.

Jeffrey Horn of Schacker Realty represented the tenant, while Peter Hawkins of Greiner Maltz represented the landlord, Four Oaks LLC, in the Edgewood lease transaction.
