Amazon plans AI content marketplace for publishers: report

Amazon is reportedly developing a new marketplace where publishers can sell their content to companies building artificial intelligence products, according to a recent report by The Information.

The report, citing people familiar with the discussions, states that Amazon Web Services (AWS) has shown slides mentioning the marketplace ahead of a company conference. The slides reportedly grouped the planned marketplace with core AWS AI tools like Bedrock and QuickSight.

The move comes as publishers and AI firms negotiate fees for the use of online content to train AI models. Publishers are pushing for usage-based payments. According to a Reuters report, an Amazon spokesperson declined to comment specifically on the matter, stating the company had “nothing specific to share” and that it continues to innovate with its publisher partners.

The reported plan follows a similar announcement last week from Microsoft, which said it is working on a Publisher Content Marketplace for AI licensing, adds the Reuters report.
