Celebrity stylist and filmmaker Rhea Kapoor has recently fallen victim to theft.
A theft case containing diamond-studded earrings valued at Rs 1.35 crore has been filed at Mumbai’s Sahar Police Station following the alleged disappearance of jewellery being transported by the team of director and stylist Rhea Kapoor during a trip to New York.
Celebrity makeup artist Savleen Singh, who has worked with Rhea Kapoor for the past seven years, was assigned to transfer the two expensive pairs of earrings that were rented from Mumbai jewellers for a fashion event in New York, according to the police.
Rhea Kapoor and her team flew to the United States to attend the Met Gala.
According to the reports, the jewellery was purchased from Mehta Jewellers and Goenka Jewellers, according to the police, and was packaged in two different boxes that Singh carried in her handbag during the trip. On April 27, the crew boarded an Emirates flight from Mumbai at 10:25 p.m., went through Dubai, and arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York at approximately 5:30 p.m. on April 28.
Singh allegedly opened the boxes to give the jewellery to Shirin, another team member, after arriving at the Pierre Hotel in New York. At that moment, she realised both of the crates were empty.
The missing pieces included an 18-carat emerald and diamond-studded gold earring set from Mehta Jewellers valued at ₹66 lakh. The second item was a Zambian emerald-stone earring set with a gold border from Goenka Jewellers, estimated to be worth Rs 69 lakh.
