GuitarGym is the latest gamified music-education startup

A gym is no place for guitars: you might trip someone up with the cables, and dumbbells are a much better shape for weight-lifting anyway…

Thankfully GuitarGym is nothing to do with physical fitness. It’s the latest startup bringing a gamified approach to learning to play musical instruments.

Its service uses quick lessons and games to encourage people to learn chords and practise scales on their guitar, with digital collectibles and community features included to keep them motivated.

GuitarGym uses a freemium model: people can sign up and use it for free, but a ‘Pro’ subscription costs $24.95 a month, $114 a year or $396 for a lifetime membership – the latter two are launch-discount prices.

The service is the work of the company behind ToneGym and SoundGym, which are ear-training and music-theory services aimed at musicians, producers and sound engineers.
