Indian AI coding startup Emergent becomes unicorn just over a year after launch

Emergent, an Indian startup building AI-powered coding tools for entrepreneurs and small businesses, has raised $130 million in a Series C funding round at a post-money valuation of $1.5 billion, becoming a unicorn just over a year after it was founded in June 2025.

The round was led by private equity firm Creaegis, with participation from new investors MNI Ventures-Claypond and Sentinel Global, alongside existing backers Khosla Ventures, SoftBank’s Vision Fund 2, Lightspeed, and Y Combinator. The deal brings Emergent’s total funding to $230 million and represents a fivefold increase in valuation from the $300 million figure at which it raised a $70 million Series B in January.

The company was founded by brothers Mukund Jha, who serves as chief executive, and Madhav Jha, who is chief technology officer. Mukund Jha told TechCrunch that Emergent has reached an annual revenue run rate of $120 million, up 70% over the past four months, with more than 200,000 paying customers. “Our thesis has always been to build a production-grade application for serious builders,” he said. “You’re basically getting an engineering team in a box.”

Unlike developer-focused tools such as Claude Code and Cursor, Emergent targets non-technical users, including trucking companies, factories, construction businesses, and property managers, who need a platform that handles deployment, hosting, testing, and debugging alongside the code itself. North America and Europe each account for roughly a third of revenue, with India contributing approximately 8% to 9%.

Emergent employs around 200 people, most of them based in Bengaluru, with a small San Francisco office it plans to expand by 30 to 40 people by the end of the year. The company is also exploring opening a European office to capitalise on growing customer traction in the region.
