OpenAI has acquired NextSlide, a startup that built an AI tool to turn prompts, notes, and documents into presentations, the company’s founder, Ahmed Beshry, announced in a blog post.
The NextSlide team will now work on ChatGPT, and Beshry said the deal would help “continue pursuing that same mission: building AI products that help people create, communicate, and turn their ideas into meaningful work.”
Financial terms were not disclosed. In a separate note on LinkedIn, Beshry added that the acquisition took place “earlier this year” and that the public announcement was coming “a few months late.”
NextSlide’s product allowed users to generate editable slide decks from written material, aiming to make visual communication more accessible. “Bringing an idea to life shouldn’t depend on your ability to design slides,” Beshry wrote.
According to a report by TechCrunch, Beshry previously co-founded Caper AI, a smart-cart startup that was acquired by Instacart in 2021. His new team at OpenAI will contribute to the development of ChatGPT, though the company did not specify which features they would focus on. OpenAI has not commented further on the acquisition.
