It was 2012 when the Italian venture capital firm Principia announced a €2.4 million investment in a company called Docebo; it was 2019 when that company, founded in Brianza, was listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange; it was 2023 when that company became increasingly global, partly through acquisitions around the world, and also in 2023, it announced a change at the top: Claudio Erba, the founder and CEO who had grown the company to that point, decided to hand over the reins of executive leadership.
Docebo was one of the first Italian-founded start-ups – which later became a scale-up and then a tech company – to be listed on North American stock exchanges, first in Toronto and then on the Nasdaq, and has since become a truly global company. Claudio Erba is the entrepreneur who first envisaged this company and then turned it into a strong, solid organisation capable of attracting customers and investors from all over the world.
Claudio Erba has not merely stopped to reap the well-deserved rewards of his work; he is one of the entrepreneurs who most tangibly embodies the concept of ‘give-back’ – the desire to give something back to the ecosystem – and, in this specific case, this takes the form of writing books (his latest, entitled ‘ The Observer Principle’, has just been published, but we’ll discuss that in another article) and in sharing his knowledge and experience – and he does this through a course that is entirely online and completely free of charge. A course for anyone who wants to set up a start-up, who already has a start-up and wants to grow it, and who faces the daily challenges that running a start-up entails: strategy, tactics, administration, bureaucracy, internationalisation, people, products, technologies, competition, exponential growth, and relationships with investors and customers.
The course is called ‘From Zero to 1000’; it has been developed in collaboration with the e-learning platform Zick Learn, and aims to guide entrepreneurs and founders through the various stages of building a start-up.
This is a practical programme, comprising content that addresses the decisions, challenges and situations a founder faces in the day-to-day running of a start-up.
‘From Zero to 1000’ is a microlearning experience that allows you to work through the course a few minutes at a time, directly on your smartphone. This means you don’t need, for example, to find a free evening, enrol on another traditional course or schedule hours of training. Every day, you can simply set aside a few minutes for the course, just as you would for a daily workout.
The proposal is aimed not only at individual entrepreneurs but also at organisations such as incubators, accelerators and venture builders, which can use this tool to share it with all the founders of the start-ups they mentor and support.
The collaboration between Claudio Erba (pictured in the opening photo) and Zick Learn stems from the combination of content devised by a founder for other founders, presented in a format designed to be accessed at any time of day, directly on a mobile device.
The entire ‘From Zero to 1000’ course is delivered in English and is completely free of charge, in the true spirit of the ‘give-back’ concept.
