Fintech Deal: MoneyHash and Ozow Team Up for Seamless African Payment Integration - Innovation Village | Technology, Product Reviews, Business

Payment orchestration platform MoneyHash has forged a strategic partnership with prominent South African payment provider Ozow, creating a seamless integration pathway for businesses operating in the region. The collaboration enables merchants utilizing the MoneyHash ecosystem to immediately accept Ozow payments across South Africa without the technical burden of building and maintaining a standalone integration.

Through this unified setup, businesses can connect directly to Ozow while continuing to manage their broader portfolio of payment providers, intelligent routing, and financial reporting from MoneyHash’s centralized platform. Both companies emphasize that this streamlined approach will significantly reduce the operational overhead associated with juggling multiple payment vendors, a critical advantage as the volume and variety of digital payment methods continue to surge in South Africa.

Strategic Timing and Leadership Realignment

The partnership arrives at a milestone moment for Ozow as the company celebrates 12 years in the South African market. It also closely follows MoneyHash’s strategic appointment of Hwan Lee as the Regional Director for Africa, a notable move given Lee’s prior leadership experience at Ozow.

“Having worked within South Africa’s payments ecosystem, I’ve seen both how quickly the market has evolved and the complexity businesses face as they scale their payment operations,” noted Lee. “There is a significant opportunity for orchestration to connect strong local payment infrastructure with businesses that want to grow within South Africa and across the continent.”

MoneyHash’s Vision for African Payment Infrastructure

Founded in early 2021 by Nader Abdelrazik and Mustafa Eid, MoneyHash is purpose-built to streamline complex financial operations in emerging and global markets. The platform functions via a single API that allows businesses to plug into multiple payment gateways simultaneously. Beyond basic connectivity, it centralizes core financial capabilities, offering smart payment routing, multi-currency processing, and a unified dashboard for comprehensive transaction management and reporting.

For MoneyHash, integrating Ozow is a vital step in its broader continental strategy. The company is actively working to fortify its payment infrastructure across Africa by onboarding established, highly trusted local providers. This localization strategy ensures merchants can easily deploy the specific payment tools preferred by consumers in their target markets, all while relying on a single, scalable management framework.

Ozow’s Evolving Real-Time Ecosystem

Ozow, established in 2014 by Thomas Pays, Lyle Eckstein, and Mitchan Adams, has built a highly versatile portfolio of real-time payment solutions. The firm supports a wide array of transaction types, including Pay by Bank, standard card payments, PayShap Requests, instant refunds, payouts, Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) facilities, and cash vouchers. Furthermore, the platform accommodates major digital wallets like Google Pay, Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay, alongside cryptocurrency transactions. Operating as a licensed System Operator and Third-Party Payment Provider with the Payments Association of South Africa (PASA), Ozow provides a secure, regulatory-compliant foundation for its merchants.

Catherine Korsten, Chief Growth Officer at Ozow, highlighted the mutual benefits of the new alliance:

Over the past 12 years, we’ve seen South Africa’s digital payments landscape evolve significantly, alongside growing demand from businesses for simpler and more flexible ways to accept payments. Our partnership with MoneyHash creates another avenue for merchants to access Ozow, while reducing the complexity of integrating and managing multiple payment solutions.
