Gifty Transforms Everyday Payments in Algeria with Mobile-First Fintech Platform

Algerian fintech startup Gifty has decided to make digital payments more accessible with its all-in-one mobile platform in a country where over 90% of transactions are still cash-based. The platform allows users to pay utility bills, mobile top-ups, internet subscriptions, and shop from over 3 million e-commerce products through the use of a single app.

The firm was developed to face the challenges with Algeria’s high independence on cash and provide a straightforward digital alternative for day-to-day transactions. Customers can load funds and make payments more easily in both online and offline settings because of the company’s structure that implements digital financial services with a real network of retail partners.

According to the Founder of Gifty, Abderrahmane Anemiche, in an interview with Forbes Afrique mentioned that;

 “My goal was clear: address the economy’s heavy reliance on cash and offer a simple, accessible service for both merchants and consumers.” He added that “Gifty’s journey is rooted in adaptability and innovation, especially in a market where bank cards are rarely used beyond ATM withdrawals”.

The platform will now offer bill payments including; Electricity, gas, water, and internet subscriptions. It is integrated on platforms like Jumia, PMG, Footland, and S-market, covering fashion, electronics, health, and groceries. The software has already exceeded 100,000 downloads on Google Play and is currently available on Android, Apple’s iOS, and Huawei’s AppGallery. That indicates that customer demand for digital payment solutions is rising in the North African market.

Gifty’s model offers a model for fintechs in corresponding regions as Algeria’s digital economy develops. Gifty is making everyday financial transactions easier for millions of people through the integration of utility payments, applications for mobile devices, and retail shopping.
