Microsoft has brought the team behind AI collaboration startup Cove into its AI division, with the company confirming that the Cove product will be shut down on April 1.
Cove developed a visual workspace designed to help users think, create, and collaborate with AI through shared, interactive environments. The update was shared via LinkedIn by Stephen Chau, Co-Founder and CEO at Cove, who confirmed that all employees have accepted roles at Microsoft. The move shifts Cove’s work on AI-supported collaboration into a larger platform environment, while ending the standalone product.
Chau said in a LinkedIn post: “Today we’re sharing some exciting news: the Cove team is joining Microsoft.”
He added: “As part of this transition, the entire Cove team has accepted offers to join Microsoft, and the Cove product will be wound down on April 1.”
Cove has stopped accepting new users and will remain accessible to existing users until the shutdown date. The company has introduced a data export feature to allow users to download their work before deletion.
Chau continued: “We’ve built a data export feature so you can take your work with you.”
The company has confirmed that all user data will be permanently deleted after April 1, with guidance provided to support the export process.
Focus moves to AI collaboration at Microsoft
The Cove team will join Microsoft AI, where they will continue working on tools designed to support how people collaborate with artificial intelligence.
Chau said: “When we started Cove, we set out to reimagine how people collaborate with AI.”
He added: “We’re thrilled to continue this work at Microsoft, where we’ll have the opportunity to pursue an even bigger vision.”
He also acknowledged the role of users and partners in shaping the product, stating: “To our users — you used Cove in ways we never anticipated, shaped the product, and made the whole journey worthwhile. Thank you.”
The transition brings Cove’s approach to AI-supported workflows into Microsoft’s existing ecosystem, with further details on how the technology will be integrated yet to be confirmed.
