Flashpass, a workforce training platform focused on building “an antidote to AI doomerism and labor displacement,” announced it has raised $4.1 million in an oversubscribed seed round as it looks to expand its offerings and scale adoption across government and education programs.
According to the company, the round was led by J2 Ventures, with participation from Seven Stars Ventures, RiverPark Ventures and Uncommon Projects, the company said. The Columbus, Ohio-based startup said it will use the funding to develop new products and expand into additional markets, with a focus on aligning training programs with evolving workforce needs.
“We asked ourselves how we could embrace the benefits of AI while protecting against mass worker displacement,” co-founder and COO Will Hinman said in the announcement. “Our platform gives everyday workers the tools they need to further their careers as inevitable technologies progress.”
Flashpass said it provides micro-certifications, scholarships and training programs aimed at helping workers and students develop skills aligned with current labor market demand, with courses spanning sectors including energy, defense and cybersecurity. The company has plans to introduce a job-matching engine later this year.
Flashpass said it currently supports more than 1,000 students through partnerships with training centers and community colleges.
