Google promises AI-heavy laptops with Android at its core

Google has announced a new line of laptops called “Googlebooks”, during the company’s Android Show 2026.

According to Google, the Googlebook laptops will be built on the Android technology stack and support the Chrome browser and Android apps. The company also said users will be able to access files and applications directly from connected Android smartphones without needing to switch devices.

Artificial intelligence (AI) features appear central to the new platform. Google said its Gemini AI system will be integrated across the operating system, including a feature called “Magic Pointer”, which provides contextual suggestions based on where users place or move their cursor.

Demonstrations shown during the Android Show 2026 included scheduling meetings from email messages and combining images to visualise furniture layouts within a room.

The laptops will also support AI-generated widgets. Google demonstrated widgets capable of organising travel itineraries, hotel reservations, restaurant bookings and event countdowns.

Despite the announcement, many aspects of the project remain unclear. Google has not disclosed hardware specifications, processor partners, pricing or model names. The company also did not confirm whether Googlebooks would eventually replace Chromebooks.

Demonstration shown during the event featured a thin laptop design with a glowing multicoloured light bar described by Google as a signature design element across the product line. Google said the first devices will be developed in partnership with major PC manufacturers including Dell, HP, Lenovo, Asus, and Acer.
