Gyeonggi College of Science and Technology announced on the 16th that it had filed four patents for outstanding startup items developed by participants in its “AI-Based Gyeonggi-Style Local Creator Practical Startup Class.”
The university ran the class to build a university-centered “regional growth talent development system (anchor).” The aim was to create a startup foundation that grows alongside the local community, with the university serving as a hub for the regional startup ecosystem.
The class ran from April 30 to the 4th of this month. A total of 176 people participated, including local residents, students and faculty. Under the close guidance of professional startup consultants, the practical training covered market analysis and local brand strategy development using generative AI, AI-based marketing and content creation, and the writing of product development plans.
Gyeonggi College of Science and Technology partnered with an international patent law firm to provide participants with practical mentoring on patent filing and support for prototype production costs. The move was intended to provide follow-up support that could extend to the commercialization stage.
As a result, through close support that continued even after the training ended, four outstanding startup items led to actual patent filings on July 10.
Kim Hyun-min, a graduate who completed a patent filing, said, “As I prepared my business, I was able to learn in depth the content I needed and receive feedback from experts, which was a great help.” He added, “Through the ‘website linking designers and R&D’ for which I filed a patent this time, I want to provide a stepping stone for underprivileged groups in the design field to gain diverse opportunities and build careers.”
Jung Soon-nam, president of Gyeonggi College of Science and Technology, said, “This class was very meaningful in that it became a venue for communication and learning where university members and the local community could give shape to innovative ideas for regional development together.” He continued, “Going forward, Gyeonggi College of Science and Technology will create a startup ecosystem that grows together with the region as a key player in the regional growth talent development system.” He emphasized, “In particular, we will continue to build a solid foundation on which the university and the local community can grow together.”
