Egyptian healthtech company Reme-D has secured $1.45 million in a pre-Series A funding round led by Anara Impact Capital. The round also attracted investment from the Global Innovation Fund, Africa Health Ventures and other backers.
Reme-D plans to use the capital to expand its manufacturing operations, enter additional African markets and broaden its portfolio of molecular diagnostic products. The company is also developing tests for genetic conditions and cancer while working to make more of its products resistant to temperature changes, simplifying transportation and storage in areas with limited healthcare infrastructure.
Founded in 2023 by Salma Tammam, Reme-D produces molecular tests for diseases including tuberculosis, HIV, hepatitis and human papillomavirus. The Cairo-based company says it has commercialised 30 diagnostic products and supplied more than 550,000 tests to customers in Egypt, Kenya and Sudan.
As part of its expansion, Reme-D will relocate to a 1,500-square-metre production facility and upgrade its equipment. The move is expected to increase manufacturing capacity tenfold. Its workforce has already expanded from five employees to around 50.
The company recently developed a customised solar-powered mobile laboratory commissioned by the World Health Organization’s Egypt office. The unit supports the Egyptian Ministry of Health’s efforts to monitor vector-borne diseases in remote communities.
Reme-D previously received $500,000 from the Global Innovation Fund to scale its molecular diagnostic solutions. The latest financing is expected to support its goal of making locally manufactured, affordable diagnostic technologies more widely available across Africa and other underserved regions.
