GRAND RAPIDS, MI — A healthcare company is leasing space at an office building at 120 Ionia Ave. SW in downtown Grand Rapids.
Root Functional Medicine, founded in 2022, is leasing 3,920 square feet on the building’s second floor for its 16 employees, according to a release.
“As a physician, author, and entrepreneur, my focus is on creating the future of healthcare: one where care is proactive, personalized, and powered by both human connection and technology,” said Dr. Erica Armstrong, founder and CEO of Root Functional Medicine. “Between this recent capital investment and our expanded offices and team, I believe we can solve what conventional healthcare leaves unsolved: chronic disease, fragmented care, and the absence of true prevention.”
Functional medicine is a personalized approach to health care that aims to identify and treat the root causes of chronic disease rather than just treating symptoms. Root describes its approach as combining lab testing, physicians and technology with the goal of reducing costs and improving outcomes.
The Right Place, a Grand Rapids-based economic development organization, and commercial real estate agency JLL helped Root Functional Medicine find its new office space.
Armstrong couldn’t be reached for comment Tuesday. It wasn’t immediately clear where the company was based prior to moving into its new space.
“Downtown Grand Rapids is truly the center of our region’s healthcare and entrepreneurial ecosystems and offers so many amenities for staff work-life balance, so we were eager to show her 120 Ionia,” said Jeffrey Karger, executive vice president of JLL. “I look forward to seeing Root Functional Medicine grow right here in downtown Grand Rapids.”
