Baran leaves Pfizer’s startup investment team – Global Venturing


He will take the helm of a healthcare hedge fund’s private investments strategy.

Michael Baran took over as head of private investments at healthcare-focused hedge fund Affinity Asset Advisors after 17 years at Pfizer, seven of which were as partner in its venture capital arm.

Having joined Pfizer Ventures in late 2018, Baran held a number of posts in the corporate, including that of executive director of emerging science and innovation for oncology, senior director for strategic portfolio management and senior director for external R&D innovation in Asia.

Before joining the pharmaceutical company, Baran worked at Rutgers University’s Northeast Structural Genomics consortium as a research scientist and later protein structure production manager.
