Mozilla is introducing a new set of artificial intelligence (AI) controls in its Firefox browser, giving users greater flexibility over how AI features are used while browsing the web.
The controls, which will be available from Firefox 148 on February 24, allow users to block or manage AI-powered functions according to their preferences.
According to a recent blog by the company, the new AI controls are located within the desktop browser settings, offering a single interface to review, enable, or disable individual AI features. Users can turn off all AI enhancements entirely, which prevents pop-ups or notifications about current or upcoming AI tools, or selectively enable features they find useful.
At launch, the AI controls will allow users to manage functions including web translations, AI-generated alt text for PDFs, AI-enhanced tab grouping, link previews, and a sidebar chatbot supporting options such as Anthropic Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, and Le Chat Mistral. These tools are optional and can be modified at any time, with preferences persisting across browser updates, as per Mozilla.
Early access to the controls will be available in Firefox Nightly, Mozilla’s testing channel.
