Cashfree Payments Names Sameer Gandhi as CFO - Indian Startup Times

Payments infrastructure major Cashfree Payments has appointed industry veteran Sameer Gandhi as its Chief Financial Officer, signaling a pivot toward scaled profitability and aggressive revenue planning.

Gandhi arrives with more than 20 years of experience in global finance, most recently serving as the Head of Finance at Visa India. His resume includes high-level stints at Vodafone, where he managed financial planning for enterprise businesses, and M&A roles at ING Australia.

Driving the Path to Profitability

Gandhi’s primary mandate is to streamline Cashfree’s financial strategy as the firm eyes profitability in the coming quarters. His appointment follows a period of rapid regulatory expansion for the Bengaluru-based fintech, which recently became one of the first in India to secure a “triple crown” of RBI licenses:

These licenses have already yielded tangible results, with the company reporting a 250% surge in cross-border payment volume year-on-year.

AI and Infrastructure Expansion

Cashfree is currently processing over $80 billion in annual transactions for more than one million businesses. To maintain this momentum, the company is moving beyond traditional processing into AI-integrated finance. Upcoming projects include:

  • Autonomous Payments: Launching proprietary Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers to allow AI agents to handle invoices and payments without human intervention.

  • Embedded Solutions: “Cashfree Here,” a tool designed to let businesses integrate payment flows directly into AI chatbots.

  • Identity Verification: Expanding “Secure ID,” an API-driven KYC stack aimed at reducing fraud during fintech onboarding.

The strategic hire and tech roadmap are backed by a strong balance sheet, bolstered by a recent $53 million funding round led by PUBG-maker KRAFTON and Apis Partners.
