AI-Driven Sports Startups

IBM launched the Sports Tech Startup Challenge, a year-long program designed to surface AI-driven startups targeting the sports industry and featuring regional showcases and an invite-only pitch contest. The initiative will visit events including Web Summit Vancouver, Rio and Lisbon, plus partner tech weeks and major sports moments, giving founders public exposure and networking with IBM Ventures and sports partners.

Showcases will offer visibility to media, investors and IBM decision-makers, while a separate invite-only IBM Sports Tech Startup Prize Competition at Web Summit Lisbon will let finalists pitch for a potential paid proof of concept worth up to $100,000. Judging will include IBM executives, VC leaders and celebrity athletes using disclosed criteria.

For startups, the program creates structured opportunities to connect AI solutions with enterprise sports use cases like performance analytics, fan engagement and platform monetization. By linking founders to IBM’s sports partnerships and technology stack, the challenge aims to accelerate practical pilots and commercial conversations within the growing sports tech market.
