The startup world gets plenty of pitch nights. Standups & Startups is bringing something different to the Southeast this June.
The startup comedy event series will make stops in Atlanta on June 4 and Charlotte on June 10, bringing together founders, investors, fintech professionals, community builders, business leaders, and comedy fans for a night built around stand-up, networking, and a pitch competition without the slide decks.
Each event opens with local professional comedians before closing with Pitches Get Stitches®, Standups & Startups’ signature format. A volunteer receives a randomly generated business name — examples include ideas like “Crypto-Enabled Cat Therapy” or “AI-Powered Origami” — and has to pitch it live to the room. The audience judges the winner, who takes home the Pitches Get Stitches® trophy.
The series is the brainchild of Robert E. Daniel (aka “RED”), a Second City Conservatory and Gotham Comedy Club-trained performer who has also worked as a trusted advisor and community builder in the Southeast startup and fintech ecosystem.
In Atlanta, Standups & Startups will take over Alloy’s sixth-floor space in West Midtown for a two-hour event capped at 75 attendees. The Charlotte event will be held at CO-LAB at UNC Charlotte Center City in partnership with RevTech Labs and will serve as the official community comedy event of the inaugural Charlotte Fintech Week.
Tickets include live comedy, access to Pitches Get Stitches®, drinks, light bites, and networking with the local startup community.
