Startup, science and innovation competition held in Rajshahi to nurture students’ talent

RAJSHAHI, June 14, 2026 (BSS)- A competition featuring startups, science projects and innovative ideas was held in Rajshahi to develop students’ creative talent, encourage scientific thinking, and promote innovative concepts.
The day-long programme was inaugurated this morning on the premises of River View Collectorate School in Rajshahi.
The event was organized under the initiative of the ‘Educational Excellence Support Scheme’ of the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education, with the aim of implementing the commitments in the current government’s election manifesto.
Students from grades 6 to 12 from various educational institutions across the district took part in the programme, which falls under the Secondary Education Development Program.
With the theme ‘Talent-Science-Innovation for the Nation, Bangladesh First’, the programme was inaugurated by Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam, who released balloons and festoons as the chief guest.
The event was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner Tuktuk Talukder.
A total of 13 teams participated in the competition — 9 teams from Rajshahi’s nine upazilas and 4 teams from the metropolitan area.
At the stalls, students showcased business initiatives using local resources, practical applications of scientific theories from textbooks, and realistic innovative ideas to solve people’s everyday problems.
The event generated widespread enthusiasm among students, teachers, and visitors.
At the exhibition, students of River View Collectorate School presented a mobile application named ‘Jotno’ (Care).
They highlighted the idea of easily delivering essential services to people through the app.
The water-cleaning boat project by students of Nowhata Girls’ High School caught the attention of visitors. The project presented a concept for removing floating waste from ponds and rivers.
In addition, students from Mahishalbari Al Islah Islami Academy in Godagari upazila displayed a project to generate free electricity from plastic waste.
The students said they created the project with the idea of utilizing plastic waste, which is harmful to the environment, to produce electricity.
They explained the project’s effectiveness, practical aspects, and future potential to visitors and judges.
In his speech as chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam said today’s students are the main force for building a Smart Bangladesh of tomorrow. The practice of science and innovative thinking makes students courageous in finding solutions to real problems.
The organizers said that such competitions will foster scientific mindset, teamwork skills, and an entrepreneurial mentality among students.
The Member Secretary of the district-level program was District Education Officer Md. Zayedur Rahman.
Present at the time were River View Collectorate School Headmaster Monowara Parveen, Rajshahi Press Club General Secretary Golam Mostofa Mamun, along with teachers, students, parents, and visitors from various educational institutions.
