The Delhi government has approved the Delhi Start-up and Incubation Policy, marking a fresh push to strengthen innovation, research and entrepreneurship in the national capital. More than ₹400 crore will be invested over the next five years under the policy, with a focus on creating stronger institutional support for young innovators and aspiring entrepreneurs.The policy will initially be implemented across 11 state universities, 13 government-aided colleges, polytechnic institutions, industrial training institutes (ITIs) and government schools. The move is aimed at taking incubation and entrepreneurial support closer to students while building a wider ecosystem for turning ideas into viable start-ups.
Incubation centres to get financial support
Under the policy, eligible institutions will receive one-time financial assistance to establish or strengthen incubation centres. These centres are expected to provide young innovators with the infrastructure and institutional support needed to develop their ideas and pursue entrepreneurial ventures.The initiative places educational institutions at the heart of Delhi’s start-up push, with universities, colleges and technical institutions expected to play a larger role in nurturing innovation.
Annual Delhi Start-up Youth Festival planned
The government will also organise an annual Delhi Start-up Youth Festival to bring together young innovators, educational institutions, start-ups, investors, industry representatives and policymakers.The festival will provide a platform to showcase new ideas, encourage partnerships and expose young entrepreneurs to potential investors and industry networks.
Government eyes bigger innovation ecosystem
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the policy seeks to establish Delhi as one of India’s leading hubs for innovation and entrepreneurship. She said the government would work to ensure that young people receive the support required to transform their ideas into successful start-ups.With a ₹400-crore-plus investment planned over five years, the policy seeks to move Delhi’s start-up ambitions beyond individual initiatives and towards a more structured ecosystem anchored in educational institutions.
