The Cairo-based startup will take its SmartPOS Plugin into markets across the Middle East, Europe and Africa.
Egypt-based fintech Zeal has raised $10 million in Series A funding to expand its SmartPOS Plugin across the Middle East, Europe and Africa.
Founded in 2019 by Omar Ebeid and Belal Mohamed, Zeal develops payment technology designed to give physical retailers more information about customers at the point of sale.
Its SmartPOS Plugin works with existing payment terminals, allowing merchants to recognise shoppers during transactions, segment them using payment data and reconnect with them after a purchase without replacing their current hardware.
The company is positioning the technology as a way to bring some of the customer intelligence commonly associated with e-commerce into physical retail, where merchants often have less visibility into who is making a purchase.
Zeal has partnerships with payment companies including Ingenico and Network International, giving its technology access to a wider network of terminals and merchant services. The company has also participated in the Visa Everywhere Initiative.
