Nigeria-founded Yellow Card, a leading global stablecoin infrastructure provider, has marked its expansion into Canada, further extending its network into North America.
Initially launched in Nigeria, Yellow Card is a leading global stablecoin infrastructure provider, enabling banks, fintechs, and multinational businesses to access US dollars, manage treasury, and move money across borders.
Supporting more than 50 currencies, Yellow Card combines global reach with deep emerging markets coverage, and is trusted by customers including Visa and Western Union.
The startup closed a US$40 million strategic funding round last month to further its global expansion efforts, and has now announced its expansion into Canada in a move enabled by the launch of Alkepay, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Yellow Card. Through Alkepay, Yellow Card now offers foreign exchange dealing and cross-border funds transfer services to clients.
“For many years, Yellow Card has solidified its reputation as a trusted Stablecoin company, partnering with the likes of Visa, Mastercard, Western Union, Thunes, and MoneyGram to move money for institutions and businesses around the world,” said Chris Maurice, CEO and co-founder of Yellow Card. “That trust is what we’re built on, and it’s what we’re bringing with us as we expand our world-class infrastructure further into North America.”
In the last few months, Yellow Card has sharpened a strategic shift from its pan-African roots towards becoming a true global company, with strategic hires in Latin America and Southeast Asia, as it builds its presence in those regions.
Earlier this year, the company announced the affiliation of its Swiss VASP, StaaS Fintech Services SA, with SO-FIT, a FINMA-recognised self-regulatory organisation, giving institutional and corporate clients a supervised entry point into its infrastructure, and Canada now extends that same global build-out into North America.
