EV Propulsion Startup Viridian Raises ₹1.47 Crore

Chennai-based EV propulsion startup Viridian Ingni Propulsion has raised ₹1.47 crore in a pre-seed funding round led by Inflection Point Ventures, with the company preparing to move from validated prototypes to pilot production.

The startup develops complete electric propulsion systems for electric vehicles, drones, robotics and industrial machinery. Its in-house offering combines the motor, controller and firmware into a single validated unit, rather than supplying only one component of the propulsion system.

Viridian plans to use the capital to develop motor-stamping tooling and dies, establish a pilot production line and set up a small manufacturing facility. The funding will also support ARAI and ICAT certification and homologation, validation of motor-controller firmware, recruitment of engineering and business teams, and working capital for initial customer deliveries.

According to the company, those first deliveries are linked to existing letters of intent. The planned certification and homologation work will be an important step before the startup can move its systems towards wider commercial deployment across the applications it is targeting.

In addition to the equity funding, Viridian has received ₹53.75 lakh in grants from SIPCOT, the Tamil Nadu Government agency; MeitY Startup Hub; NIDHI PRAYAS under the Department of Science and Technology; the Ministry of Heavy Industries; IIT Madras Research Park’s RTBI programme; and Cummins CSR.

The combined support places the startup’s next phase at the intersection of electric mobility, component manufacturing and technology commercialisation. Its proposed pilot facility is intended to take the company beyond prototype validation and towards small-scale production, while the certification process is expected to address regulatory requirements for applicable products.

Sriram G, identified in the company statement as Founder and CEO of The Propulsion Company, said India designs few of its own propulsion systems end-to-end. He said Viridian develops the motor, controller and firmware together and selects magnet technology according to the application rather than using one solution across all use cases.

Viridian’s approach reflects the importance of integrated propulsion systems in electric mobility and other equipment where motor performance, electronic control and software validation must work as a combined unit. The company’s immediate milestones are the pilot production line, manufacturing setup, certification and homologation, firmware validation, and first customer deliveries.
