OpenAI is committed to providing secure, institution-managed environments for AI use. ChatGPT Edu, introduced in 2024, offers enterprise-grade privacy and security. ChatGPT for Teachers, available since 2025, provides free access for verified U.S. K-12 educators with education-grade compliance features, including FERPA protections.
Beyond direct tools, OpenAI is fostering communities and partnerships to support AI integration. The OpenAI Student Collective aims to build a student-led network for AI learning and development, connecting skills to internships via platforms like Handshake. For educators, the OpenAI Academy, in partnership with the Walton Family Foundation, offers workshops for K-12 teachers and administrators. The company also engages with governments through OpenAI Education for Countries, exemplified by a deployment in Estonia reaching over 20,000 students and 4,600 teachers.
