New Delhi, Sept 11: The two-day BRICS Bharat Innovates Exposition began at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Friday, showcasing India’s growing deep-tech innovation ecosystem ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit. The summit will be held on September 12 and 13 under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026, with the exposition providing a platform for Indian startups to engage with international stakeholders.
Organised by the Ministry of Education in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, the programme is designed to accelerate innovations emerging from India’s higher education ecosystem. It brings together startups, higher education institutions, laboratories and research parks with global companies, investors, incubators, universities, research organisations, governments and overseas alumni.
The BRICS Bharat Innovates (BBI) Exposition is the second major showcase of India’s deep-tech startups this year, following the maiden Bharat Innovates edition held in Nice, France, from June 14 to 16. The Delhi exposition features 37 deep-tech startups selected from an original cohort of 120 ventures that participated in Bharat Innovates 2026 in France.
Aligned with the theme of India’s BRICS Chairship — “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability” — the exposition is being held alongside the BRICS Business Forum. Participating innovators will have opportunities to engage with CEOs, investors, business leaders and industry representatives from BRICS countries, opening avenues for B2B partnerships, technology collaborations, investment and international market access.
The event also supports the BRICS Education Track priority of “Enhancing Research, Innovation and Start-up Ecosystems”, one of five priority areas identified under India’s BRICS Chairship. The initiative reflects India’s effort to connect its domestic innovation capabilities with global markets and institutional networks.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Education Minister Pralhad Joshi and BRICS leaders are expected to visit the exposition, along with senior Indian and international delegates participating in the leaders’ engagements. CEOs, investors and senior business representatives from BRICS countries are also expected to interact with the participating startups.
For the startups, the event provides high-level visibility and direct access to potential investors and commercial partners. Structured matchmaking, supported in coordination with FICCI, CII and ASSOCHAM, is expected to facilitate business meetings and international collaborations while enhancing the global credibility of Indian deep-tech ventures.
The exposition builds on India’s wider BRICS education engagements, including the 13th BRICS Education Ministers’ Meeting and the 3rd BRICS Senior Officials’ Meeting on Education held in Bhubaneswar in August 2026. The Education Ministers’ Declaration identified research, innovation and startup ecosystems among the key areas for cooperation.
