BUSAN — Career education support centers in all 16 districts and counties of Busan will tap space, equipment and experts at universities and startup support agencies for youth entrepreneurship education. Rather than relying on lectures alone, the program will run camps, competitions and mentoring to give young people more chances to refine their ideas and test them firsthand.
The Busan Center for Creative Economy & Innovation said on the 28th that it recently signed a memorandum of understanding on building a regional startup ecosystem and promoting youth entrepreneurship with the Busan Regional Office of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Tongmyong University and the 16 district and county career education support centers in Busan. The signing took place at the ASTI Hotel Busan.
Under the agreement, the participating organizations will jointly plan and operate education programs for young people, including the “Startup for All” program as well as startup camps, workshops and competitions. They will open up space and equipment needed for entrepreneurship education to one another and connect students with experts for mentoring.
The partnership focuses on linking demand from career education programs with resources held by universities and startup agencies. By sharing education and hands-on facilities that had been scattered across individual institutions, the organizations aim to help young people move beyond learning about startups to developing their ideas and examining whether they can be put into practice.
The signing ceremony was attended by Lee Cheong-il, head of the Busan Regional Office of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups; Lee Sang-cheon, president of Tongmyong University; Kim Yong-woo, chief executive of the Busan Center for Creative Economy & Innovation; and officials from each career education support center. Ahead of the event, Choi Yong-seok, a professor at Chung-Ang University, gave a lecture on the need for youth entrepreneurship education that identifies local problems and seeks solutions through experimentation and collaboration.
An official at the Busan Center for Creative Economy & Innovation said, “Using this agreement as a starting point, we plan to expand youth entrepreneurship education programs and strengthen the link between the regional startup ecosystem and career education.”
