Gujarat Launches AI Startup Funding Scheme, Announces Sovereign AI Park to Boost Innovation

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has introduced a comprehensive financial support framework for artificial intelligence (AI) startups while also announcing plans to establish a ‘Sovereign AI Park’ in Gandhinagar. The announcement was made after Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held direct consultations with emerging technology firms.

Startup Dialogue Brings Together Innovators Across Sectors

The initiative was outlined during a startup dialogue hosted by the state’s Science and Technology Department at the Chief Minister’s residence. Around 24 high-potential startups from across India participated, showcasing innovations across multiple sectors:

  • Agriculture (5 startups)
  • Healthcare (3 startups)
  • Education (6 startups)
  • Government and industrial sectors (10 startups)

The discussions highlighted the growing role of AI in transforming industries and public services.

Government Focus on Innovation and Collaboration

Addressing the participants, CM Bhupendra Patel emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering innovation:

“The government is committed to giving priority to talented startups to encourage innovation and new enterprises.”

He added that AI adoption would be expanded to:

  • Improve the speed of governance
  • Enhance transparency
  • Ensure faster delivery of public services

Patel also credited the technological foundation laid during Narendra Modi’s tenure as Gujarat’s Chief Minister, noting it enabled rapid adoption of emerging technologies.

Financial Support Model for AI Startups

Under the state’s AI Innovation Challenge, Gujarat has introduced a structured funding mechanism to support startups from early-stage development to deployment.

Proof-of-Concept (PoC) Funding

  • Up to ₹7.5 lakh for moderate projects
  • Up to ₹10 lakh for complex projects
  • 25% funding released upfront, 75% after successful completion

Full-Scale Deployment Support

  • Up to ₹50 lakh for moderate projects
  • Up to ₹1 crore for complex projects
  • Covers implementation, customization, and feature enhancement

Startups will also receive support for up to four years, including access to infrastructure at the Gujarat State Data Centre and AI Centres of Excellence.

‘Sovereign AI Park’ to Boost Ecosystem

The government signed an MoU with Sarvam AI and startup MIKO to establish a ‘Sovereign AI Park’ in Gujarat.

Key Features of the AI Park:

  • Advanced computing infrastructure
  • Research and innovation centers
  • Skill development programs for youth
  • AI-driven governance solutions
  • Citizen service enhancement technologies

The project is expected to generate significant employment opportunities over the next five years and strengthen Gujarat’s position in the AI ecosystem.

The state government reiterated its focus on leveraging AI for:

  • Public welfare improvements
  • Transparent governance

Officials confirmed that the government will facilitate the AI Park by fast-tracking approvals, offering policy support, and coordinating across departments.
