WhatsApp is introducing a new privacy-focused artificial intelligence (AI) feature called “Incognito Chat with Meta AI”.
The feature, announced by Meta, is intended to allow users to hold temporary and private conversations with the company’s AI assistant without the chats being visible to Meta or stored permanently.
According to the company, Incognito Chat is built on Meta’s “Private Processing” technology, which processes messages in what it describes as a secure environment inaccessible even to Meta itself. The company said conversations created through the feature will disappear by default and will not be saved.
The company also confirmed plans to expand its private AI tools further through a feature called “Side Chat”, which is expected to arrive in the coming months. According to Meta, the tool will provide AI assistance within conversations while preserving privacy protections through the same “Private Processing” technology.
Incognito Chat with Meta AI is expected to roll out gradually on WhatsApp and the Meta AI application over the coming months.
