Kazakh startup takes 2nd place at sports technology competition in US


Kazakh deep-tech startup Mirai Tech took second place at the WT Innovation World Cup USA 2026, held in Silicon Valley. The company is developing technology for biomechanical analysis of athletes’ movements and injury risk assessment, El.kz reports citing Digital Business.

Mirai Tech’s technology enables the collection of data on an athlete’s movements directly during training sessions. The system helps identify excessive loading or movement asymmetries that may be associated with an increased risk of injury.

The solution is based on insoles equipped with autonomous sensors. The sensors do not require batteries and generate energy from the user’s movement. A similar technology was previously recognized at the WIPO Global Awards 2026, where Mirai Tech was among the finalists in the special “Sport” category.

At the U.S. competition, the project was presented by Tamirlan Seidakhmetov, a graduate of Nazarbayev University and Stanford University. He previously worked with data at Meta and Apple.

Gulnur Kalimuldina, Founder of Mirai Tech and Professor at Nazarbayev University, attributes the company’s current achievement to the transition from university-based research and development to commercialization and entry into international markets.

The technology was developed on the basis of six years of university research. The core technical solution is protected by a patent in Kazakhstan, while international patent registration is currently underway.

In 2026, Mirai Tech also represented Kazakhstan at the final stage of the WIPO Global Awards. The competition received more than 1,300 applications from 126 countries, with the startup being selected as one of 33 finalists.

The startup is developing the solution for professional sports teams, sports medicine, and rehabilitation. The developers’ objective is to obtain data on an athlete’s condition directly at the training venue, reducing the need for regular laboratory-based testing.
