CredPal expands beyond BNPL with launch of Atom investment platform - Innovation Village | Technology, Product Reviews, Business

Nigerian fintech company CredPal has expanded its financial services offering with the launch of Atom, a new digital investment platform designed to give African investors access to a wide range of local and international investment opportunities.

The new platform will enable users to buy, hold and trade Nigerian stocks, US-listed securities and digital assets through a single investment ecosystem, marking a significant step in CredPal’s evolution from a buy now, pay later (BNPL) provider into a broader wealth and financial technology company.

Moving Beyond Consumer Credit

Atom will operate alongside CredPal’s core lending business, which has become one of Nigeria’s best-known BNPL platforms. Since its launch, the company has focused on helping consumers spread the cost of purchases over time through flexible payment plans.

According to CredPal, its lending platform has facilitated more than $100 million in credit disbursements, providing financing to consumers across various sectors. However, the company did not disclose the total number of customers who have accessed loans or credit facilities through its platform.

The introduction of Atom signals a strategic move into the rapidly growing digital investment market, where demand for accessible wealth-building products continues to rise among younger and increasingly tech-savvy African investors.

Access to Local and Global Markets

Through Atom, users will be able to diversify their portfolios across multiple asset classes from a single platform.

The offering includes access to:

  • Nigerian equities listed on the Nigerian Exchange.
  • US stocks and securities.
  • Digital assets and alternative investment products.
  • Portfolio management and investment tracking tools.

The platform aims to lower barriers to investing by simplifying access to both domestic and international markets, which have traditionally been difficult or expensive for many retail investors across Africa to access.

Building an All-in-One Financial Ecosystem

The launch reflects a broader trend among African fintech firms seeking to provide a complete suite of financial services rather than focusing on a single product category.

Having established itself in the consumer credit space, CredPal is now positioning itself to serve customers throughout their financial journey, from borrowing and spending to saving and investing.

The company appears to be targeting growing interest in wealth creation among young Africans, many of whom are increasingly looking for alternatives to traditional savings products amid inflationary pressures and currency volatility in several African markets.

CredPal’s Growth Journey

Founded in 2018, CredPal gained recognition as one of Nigeria’s early buy now, pay later startups. The fintech allows customers to purchase goods and services immediately while spreading payments over four installments, making financing more accessible for everyday consumers.

In 2019, the startup joined the prestigious Y Combinator accelerator programme, providing it with international visibility and support as it scaled its operations. The company later strengthened its financial position through a $15 million debt and equity funding round in 2022, capital raised to support expansion and product development.

Expanding Opportunities for African Investors

With Atom, CredPal is entering an increasingly competitive investment-tech market but hopes to differentiate itself by combining lending, payments and investing within a single ecosystem.

The platform’s launch highlights the growing convergence between lending and wealth management services in Africa’s fintech sector, as companies seek to deepen customer engagement and create new revenue streams beyond traditional credit products.

As investor interest in global markets, digital assets and diversified portfolios continues to grow across the continent, Atom positions CredPal to participate in the next phase of Africa’s rapidly evolving digital finance landscape.
