Salesforce to Buy Defense Tech Startup Rune in $375 Million Cash-and-Stock Deal — BigGo Finance

Salesforce has agreed to acquire Rune Technologies, a startup whose AI software helps the U.S. military forecast supply needs and manage logistics in the field, for $375 million in cash and stock, according to Resilience Media.

The deal extends Salesforce’s push into defense technology through Missionforce, the business unit it set up to serve national security and defense agencies. Salesforce said Missionforce revenue has climbed 80% year over year since its launch, helped by a 10-year, $5.6 billion contract with the U.S. Army. The company said customers now span all six branches of the U.S. military, and that the Army and Marine Corps already use Rune’s technology.

Rune’s software is built to help troops plan how to deploy resources and decide where to send them, including in locations with little or no network connectivity. Salesforce said folding Rune’s frontline logistics data into Missionforce will move the unit beyond back-office administrative planning and into battlefield operations.

Founded in 2024, Rune has raised $30 million from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Point72 Ventures and IQT, the CIA-backed nonprofit venture firm formerly known as In-Q-Tel. PitchBook data put the startup’s last valuation at $127 million after a Series A round led by Human Capital last year.

The purchase is the latest in a string of acquisitions by the CRM company as it broadens its AI offerings amid investor concern that rapid AI adoption could erode demand for traditional software.

Target Reported value
Braze About $5.66 billion
Fin (formerly Intercom) $3.6 billion
Qualified $1.2 billion
Rune Technologies $375 million
Informatica (prior year) $8 billion

Note: Values as reported in the source material; the Rune figure is cash and stock.

Salesforce also signed a deal for Listen Labs after that startup walked away from a $125 million Series C term sheet at a $1.5 billion valuation, TechCrunch reported.

The Rune transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of Salesforce’s fiscal 2027.
