Indian Startup News on Instagram: “India does not just build startups. It builds leaders who run the world.

Kunal Shah, founder of Bengaluru-based fintech unicorn CRED, has been announced as the new global CEO of WhatsApp, the world’s biggest messaging platform, used by over 3 billion people.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg personally made the announcement, praising Shah’s “builder mentality and global perspective.” He said he looks forward to making WhatsApp the best service for billions of people and millions of businesses.

Outgoing WhatsApp head Will Cathcart, who led the app for over seven years, called Shah the right person to take it forward.

Kunal Shah started CRED in 2018 with just $1 million of personal capital.

Today, CRED has 17 million monthly members, processes over 40% of India’s credit card bill payments, and posted Rs 2,735 crore in FY25 revenue.
