Honam University Selects 10 Outstanding Entries at Startup Idea Awards Ceremony – The Asia Business Daily

On June 16, the Startup Education Center at Honam University held the “2026-1st Semester Startup Idea Contest Awards Ceremony,” selecting and awarding 10 outstanding startup ideas, including a low-noise drone system, from a total of 52 proposals submitted by students, faculty, and staff.

The Startup Education Center at Honam University announced on June 17 that it hosted the 2026-1st Semester Startup Idea Contest Awards Ceremony, selecting and awarding a total of 10 outstanding ideas.

The Startup Idea Contest is organized to discover creative and excellent startup ideas among undergraduate and graduate students and faculty, and to promote a campus-wide culture of entrepreneurship.

This semester’s contest accepted applications from April 13 to May 4, with support from the Anchor Project Group (headed by Jeong Je-Pyeong). A total of 52 entries were submitted under the theme of creative startup ideas spanning both general/technology and local fields. After evaluation by a panel of expert judges, 10 teams were selected as winners.

In the undergraduate category:

– The grand prize went to the team led by Park Hyun-Yong (senior, Department of Robotic Drone Engineering) for proposing the “Duct Structure-Based Spiral and Serration Composite Aerodynamic Design Low-Noise Drone System,” which improves the conventional straight blade design to address noise issues generated during drone operation.

– The first prize was awarded to Lee Sun-Woo (senior, Department of Physical Therapy) for the “Angle-Limited Handle.”

– The excellence award went to the team led by Lim Min-Gyu (junior, Department of Mechanical Automotive Engineering) for the “Autonomous Calling Wheelchair.”

Additionally, the idea awards were given to:

– Yang Gun-Woo (senior, Department of Beauty and Cosmetology) for “Beauty Log: Recording Everything About Beauty,”

– Ryu Ji-Woo (junior, Department of Food and Nutrition) for the “Our Neighborhood Intern,” a platform matching small business owners with university students,

– The team led by Bang Yu-Jin (senior, Department of Nursing) for “Moyeogwang (Let’s Gather Gwangju),” a platform for promoting local gatherings in Gwangju,

– The team led by Lee Young-Jun (sophomore, Department of Hotel Convention) for “Market Bridge.”

In the graduate student and faculty category:

– The grand prize was awarded to the team led by Lee Chan-Ho (Graduate School, Department of Computer Engineering) for proposing the “AI-Based Parking Lot Congestion Analysis and Low-Congestion Parking Lot Recommendation Service.”

– The first prize went to the team led by Park Ji-Min (Graduate School, Department of Beauty and Cosmetology) for the “Semi-Automatic Rain Shield for Vehicles.”

– The excellence award was received by the team led by Song Woo-Jin (Graduate School, Department of Computer Engineering) for “VR Preventive Education Content on Drug-Related Risk Situations for Teenagers and Young Adults.”

The winning teams will be provided with opportunities to further develop their ideas through follow-up mentoring programs. They will also receive various support programs such as intellectual property applications and prototype production assistance, aimed at increasing the commercialization potential of their startup ideas.

President Park Sang-Cheol stated, “In an era of rapid advancement in new technologies such as AI, creative ideas and a spirit of challenge are the key to future competitiveness. I hope students will cultivate their problem-solving abilities and innovative capacities through entrepreneurial activities, and fully realize their potential.”
