Jamshedpur’s Gulmohur High School Launches ‘Startup Studio’ | The Avenue Mail

Jamshedpur: Gulmohur High School launched the Gulmohur Startup Studio – Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme 2026. The initiative marks a first-of-its-kind, school-led entrepreneurship ecosystem in Jharkhand that directly connects current students with experiential learning and structured alumni mentorship.

Principal Priti Sinha conceptualized and spearheaded the programme to align with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). The initiative moves beyond textbook business theories, allowing students to build real ventures, interact with industry founders, and master the lifecycle of managing a startup.

A Unique School–Alumni Collaboration Model

The programme leverages Gulmohur’s accomplished alumni network, bringing former students back to their alma mater as mentors, investors, and industry experts. This collaboration ensures authentic industry exposure while strengthening institutional bonds.

During the inaugural session, Principal Priti Sinha introduced students to design thinking, risk-taking, and startup culture.

“Through Gulmohur Startup Studio, we are creating an ecosystem where every child has the opportunity to discover their potential, transform ideas into enterprises, and become a job creator rather than merely a job seeker,” Sinha stated. “Our dream is to see Gulmohur students confidently pitching their ideas on platforms like Shark Tank.”

Industry Leaders Step Up as Founding Mentors

The launch ceremony drew significant support from the school’s leadership, including Vice Principal Archana Srivastava, teachers, and prominent alumni.

  • Keynote Speaker: Santosh Sharma (1996 batch), Founder & CEO of BookMyJet—India’s first private jet technology platform—and a startup mentor for IIT Bombay and T-Hub, joined the initiative as a Founding Mentor. He urged students to embrace curiosity and resilience.
  • Young Achievers: Young alumni Ashutosh (Batch of 2026) shared his entrepreneurial experiences with Akshaykala, while Vaibhav Karn (Batch of 2024), currently studying engineering at BIT Sindri, spoke on blending technical skills with business thinking.

First Live Project: Sustainable & Handcrafted Jewellery

To kick off the studio, students will launch their first live startup venture focused on Handcrafted & Sustainable Jewellery. This project directly aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Through this inaugural business, students will manage the entire entrepreneurial cycle hands-on:

  • Ideation and Product Design
  • Branding and Marketing
  • Pricing, Sales, and Financial Planning
  • Ethical and Sustainable Business Reflection

Over the coming years, Gulmohur High School intends to scale the Startup Studio into a permanent innovation incubator. By regularly bringing in founders, investors, and leaders, the school bridges the gap between classroom education and the modern global economy.
