German AI Startup amber Closes €7M Series A To Build Autonomous Enterprise Knowledge Platform

amber, an Aachen-based AI platform helping small and medium-sized businesses unlock organizational knowledge, announced the close of a €7 million Series A round co-led by Ventech, which doubled down on its earlier investment, and NRW.Venture, the venture arm of NRW.BANK.

Founded in 2021 by Bastian Maiworm, Philipp Reißel, and Igli Manaj, amber combines traditional search, generative AI, assistant features, and automation into a platform designed to help AI understand organizational context, identify user intent, and execute workflows across fragmented enterprise data. Co-founder and CRO Maiworm said the company’s approach differed from tools that wait for users to ask the right questions, aiming instead to proactively recognize what needs to be done and execute tasks autonomously.

The company said its proprietary AI Data Layer creates a unified understanding of business information before applying large language models, improving both reliability and token efficiency compared to systems processing unstructured data directly. Co-founder and CEO Reißel said the funding would accelerate deployment of systems capable of understanding context and completing work autonomously across European businesses.

amber serves customers across manufacturing, engineering, and consumer goods, including Ritter Sport and Zentis. Ventech partner Nicolas Barthalon said the company had identified key challenges of the current AI cycle around token efficiency and agent governance. amber plans to use the funding to expand into the Benelux region while deepening its enterprise integrations.
