When start-ups operate in fields traditionally associated with Switzerland, it facilitates communication. And there are more such fields than one might think.
Dear reader
Qnami is a pioneer in quantum mechanics. Founded in 2017 as a spin-off from the University of Basel, the company develops quantum technology for sensing and imaging applications; for example, the ability to control the state of a single electron enables measurement with unprecedented precision. Now, it has been acquired by US-based global company Quantum Design. According to Qnami’s CEO Mathieu Munsch, the acquisition will accelerate growth.
Qnami builds on Switzerland’s traditional strength in microtechnology just like Lightium and Swiss Cluster, which are among the winners of this year’s Swiss Economic Awards. Not only is the extensive local expertise an advantage for them, but the ability to connect with areas associated with Switzerland also facilitates communication. And there are more such fields than one might imagine, including trust and security. Promising start-ups in this sector were recognised this week as part of Tech4Trust’s programme: Aurigin.ai took first place with its real-time audio deepfake detection and voice anti-spoofing solutions. In addition, Saporo secured support for its expansion into the US.
Cense operates at the intersection of security and fintech: the company has developed a crypto compliance platform for financial institutions and has now secured investment of EUR 6.5 million. Furthermore, four successful fintech start-ups also feature among the finalists of the Swiss Fintech Awards.
In the biotech sector, TheraPPI has closed a pre-seed funding round and techbio start-up hephaistos.bio has secured CHF 150,000 from Venture Kick.
Other areas associated with Switzerland include food – Catchfree won the Startfeld Diamant award – and sports and sports management. The German Football Association (DFB) is joining Coachbetter as a strategic investor and, as the world’s largest sports federation, is supporting the firm’s further international growth. Coachbetter secured a total of CHF 6.4 million in this funding round.
Next week, Swiss Medtech Day will take place in Bern and the Swiss Startup Association’s Summer Night will be held in Zurich. The >>venture>> Award Ceremony is scheduled for 15 June. I would also like to draw your attention to the deadlines for the Boldbrain Startup Challenge, HSG Start Accelerator and Venture Leaders Fintech.
Have a good weekend.
