The pair who once took on tech giants have built an AI platform for litigators, backed by $6 million in seed funding
Jonathan Kanter and Doha Mekki spent their time at the Justice Department’s antitrust division bringing landmark cases against tech companies. Their next move is to build one.
The duo has founded FluxCap, a startup that makes an artificial intelligence tool for litigators.
What FluxCap actually does
FluxCap pitches itself as an AI-native platform for high-stakes litigation. The goal is to let attorneys run a complex case from one workspace instead of a dozen disconnected tools.
The platform is built around three specialized engines. Each handles a different piece of the litigation puzzle.
The first, FluxAlmanac, organizes curated legal rules and doctrines. Its focus leans heavily toward antitrust, which makes sense given who built it.
The second, FluxFacts, structures evidence. It connects each claim in a case back to its supporting source.
The third engine, Vision Manager, handles case strategy and risk navigation.
The company’s emphasis on verifiable citations is notable. AI tools in legal work have a reputation problem around documents and sourcing, and FluxCap is positioning its infrastructure to reduce those risks in legal document workflows.
Money, traction and hiring
FluxCap raised $6 million in seed funding in March 2026. At least part of that came from Burford Capital, a major name in litigation finance.
As of late October 2026, FluxCap’s platform is already in use in active litigation matters seeking over $1 billion in damages.
The startup is also hiring. It is recruiting engineers and product designers based in New York City and Washington, DC, with skills in React/Next.js and Python.
From enforcers to founders
Kanter served as Assistant Attorney General, leading the DOJ’s antitrust division. Mekki worked alongside him at the top of the division during a period defined by aggressive action against large technology firms.
FluxCap says its platform is designed to help smaller legal teams hold their own in disputes against opponents with far deeper resources.
What this means for legal tech and litigation
For the broader legal tech market, FluxCap is a signal of specialization. Rather than building a general-purpose legal chatbot, the founders are targeting a narrow, high-value niche: complex, high-stakes litigation with an antitrust tilt.
Antitrust cases involve dense economics, sprawling evidence and years of procedural history, and the founders’ firsthand experience running major cases is not something a generic AI startup can easily replicate.
FluxCap’s focus on linking claims to sources and verifiable citations reads as a direct response to the concern that courts have little patience for AI-generated errors in matters seeking over $1 billion in damages.
