Stripe has launched Stripe Treasury for agents, a service that allows startups to delegate financial operations to AI agents, including those powered by ChatGPT and Claude.

The offering enables AI agents to access financial information and perform tasks such as checking account balances, settling invoices, transferring money between accounts and converting currencies. Stripe plans to add further capabilities, including card creation, while giving businesses the ability to set spending limits for agents in the coming weeks.

The service is designed to let AI agents operate within the software businesses already use to manage their operations. Stripe’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) server connects agents to its application programming interface (API) and financial data, allowing them to carry out tasks without requiring users to switch between separate platforms.

Startups retain control over how agents interact with their finances. Businesses can determine which accounts and data agents can access, restrict them to viewing information or authorise them to execute transactions, and specify when human approval is required before money moves.

The launch comes as more founders use AI to manage growing businesses without expanding their headcount. Stripe reported that the number of solopreneurs earning more than $1m in 2025 was more than double the 2023 figure, while the number earning above $5m and $10m had nearly tripled. Solo founders accounted for 63% of C corporations established through Stripe Atlas in the second quarter of 2026.

Kubrio, a platform that enables children aged six to 13 to create films, games, comics and robot designs, illustrates how the technology could be applied. Founder Vlad Stan is the company’s sole employee and uses a Grok agent named Stash to monitor its finances.

After adopting Stripe Treasury as Kubrio’s primary business account earlier this year, Stan connected Stash through Stripe’s MCP server to generate daily reports covering account balances, subscription changes, failed payments and refunds. Stan reviews the reports and intervenes when issues arise.

He plans to expand the agent’s responsibilities to include transferring money between Kubrio accounts and paying contractors and creators, with his approval required for every transaction. The approach is intended to reduce the need to move between AI tools and separate financial platforms while retaining human oversight of payments.

Stripe Treasury allows businesses to manage banking activities through the same dashboard they use to accept payments. Stripe is not a bank, and checking accounts are provided solely by Fifth Third Bank, National Association, Member FDIC.

Stripe Treasury product lead JR Farr said, “Every founder wants to spend more time building and less time on admin. Stripe Treasury for agents makes it easier for founders to safely offload repetitive financial tasks so they can focus on growing their business.”
