Jakarta, IO – As public awareness of healthcare quality continues to grow, more Indonesians are seeking medical treatment abroad. However, the process remains highly complex and often lacks proper guidance — from choosing hospitals and understanding medical procedures to arranging travel during urgent situations.
Responding to this challenge, Indonesian medical concierge startup Medtrip announced a pre-seed funding round led by Hasan.VC to expand cross-border healthcare access through a technology-driven approach.
The funding will be used to develop artificial intelligence (AI)-based products, strengthen operational capabilities, and broaden service accessibility for Indonesian patients.
The medical tourism phenomenon itself is not new. The Indonesian government estimates that around 600,000 to 1 million Indonesians seek medical treatment overseas each year, resulting in approximately US$11.5 billion in annual foreign exchange outflow.
This figure reflects two realities at once: the increasing demand for quality healthcare services, as well as persistent gaps in healthcare access and information domestically.
At the same time, many patients — particularly working professionals and young families — face significant pressure when making important medical decisions within limited timeframes. Limited cost transparency, restricted access to international second opinions, and logistical complexities often make the situation even more difficult.
“Many patients and families still have to go through a complicated process when seeking treatment abroad. We built Medtrip to make that journey much easier and more guided,” said Danang Firdaus, Co-Founder and CEO of Medtrip.
Medtrip acts as a bridge that helps Indonesian patients gain access to doctors and hospitals overseas while also providing guidance on treatment options, cost estimations, and end-to-end medical travel arrangements.
Danang explained that medical travel is not only about healthcare itself, but also about navigating complex decisions during emotionally challenging moments. From selecting healthcare facilities and understanding medical procedures to arranging international travel, patients require clarity and reliable assistance throughout the process.
As demand for cross-border healthcare services continues to increase, Southeast Asia has emerged as one of the world’s major medical tourism hubs, with countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand becoming primary destinations. However, without integrated systems, the process often remains confusing for patients.

To date, Medtrip has assisted thousands of patients, recorded threefold year-on-year revenue growth, and established partnerships with more than 80 hospitals across Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea.
Moving forward, Medtrip aims to further develop more personalized and efficient technology-based services while expanding Indonesians’ access to global healthcare solutions.
With the growing need for healthcare services that are fast, transparent, and trustworthy, solutions such as Medtrip are expected to become part of a new transformation in how people access medical care — no longer limited by national borders, but enabled by technology.
