Google has launched a new Google DeepMind Accelerator program in Asia Pacific, focused on using AI to support climate and environmental projects across the region.
The three-month program, called “AI for the Planet,” is open to Asia Pacific-based startups, research teams, and nonprofits working on environmental challenges. Areas of focus include nature, climate, agriculture, energy, sustainability, and wider planetary risks.
Selected organizations will receive mentorship, tailored support, and help from Google AI experts to integrate frontier AI and science AI models into their projects or products. The program will begin with an in-person bootcamp in Singapore.
Program targets climate and environmental risk
Google said the Asia Pacific region is a major engine of economic growth, but is also highly vulnerable to climate change. The company said green technologies are gaining momentum, but are not scaling fast enough to keep pace with rising environmental risks in the region.
The accelerator is designed to support organizations already building climate or environmental solutions, rather than teams at the earliest idea stage. Google said selected participants will work with experts on how frontier AI and science AI models could be applied to existing projects.
Sami Kizilbash, APAC Head, Developer Ecosystems at Google, posted on LinkedIn that the accelerator is intended for “ambitious problem-solvers all over Asia.”
He said the program is open to APAC-based startups, nonprofits, and research groups working on environmental problems, including sustainability, climate, nature, and agriculture.
Kizilbash also linked the launch to recent AI advances, writing that “every new AI breakthrough opens a door to new solutions for our planet.”
The interest form asks respondents whether they want to be notified about the accelerator application cycle opening, demo day, or other related events. It also collects country or region details, role information, and organization name.
Google adds accelerator to AI for science work
The launch gives Google another route to work with external teams applying AI beyond general productivity or software development use cases.
The company said selected organizations will receive support in applying Google DeepMind and Google AI expertise to their work, including help integrating models into products or projects. The program sits at the intersection of AI, climate technology, research, and startup support.
Applications are not yet positioned as a standard open cohort process. Google is currently collecting expressions of interest for program-related information, including announcements and application cycle details.
The first cohort will begin with a bootcamp in Singapore. The next detail for applicants will be when Google opens the formal accelerator application cycle and confirms eligibility requirements, cohort size, and selection timings.
