An IIT Madras alumni-founded startup, Blurgs AI, working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, defence and maritime technology, has secured USD 2.2 million in its first institutional funding round to accelerate its global expansion.
Blurgs AI, a deep-tech startup founded by IIT Madras alumni Roshan Raj Mohanty and Avinash Kori, announced that the investment will help strengthen its AI-powered intelligence platforms designed for defence, national security and commercial maritime operations worldwide.
The funding round was led by Pravega Ventures and Shastra VC, with participation from angel investors Suraj Nalin, co-founder of PlaySimple Games, and Yashwanth Madhusudhan, co-founder of Fyle.
FROM CAMPUS TO GLOBAL AMBITIONS
The latest investment comes as Blurgs AI looks to take its technology beyond India and build a stronger international presence.
Interestingly, the startup had already established a diverse customer base before raising institutional capital. According to IIT Madras, its AI platforms are being used by mission-critical organisations across defence, conservation, maritime industries and India’s public sector ecosystem.
Its clients include the Indian Navy, the Indian Coast Guard, Bharat Electronics, DRDO laboratories and the Mumbai Port Authority. The company says this early adoption demonstrates the practical value of its technology in sectors where real-time intelligence and reliability are essential.
AI BUILT FOR DEFENCE AND MARITIME OPERATIONS
Blurgs AI develops platforms that operate across two major sectors.
In the commercial maritime space, the company provides operational intelligence tools for ports, shipping fleets, shipyards and fisheries. Its systems help organisations gain real-time visibility into operations, improve performance, support regulatory compliance and optimise decision-making across maritime networks.
On the defence and national security front, the same AI capabilities are applied to threat detection, adversary monitoring and cross-domain situational awareness. These systems are designed to assist organisations that require continuous monitoring and rapid intelligence for critical operations.
