Egypt is the country that attracted most funding in H1 2026.
According to a new report by The Big Deal,
- Egypt led with a total of $327 million, followed by
- Nigeria ($254 million),
- Kenya ($126 million), and
- South Africa ($83 million).
The latest stats end Kenya’s run at the top after it led the continent in startup funding throughout 2025 with nearly $1 billion raised driven largely by clean energy and fintech companies. This is also marks the lowest fall for Kenya since early 2021.

The Big Four attracted ‘only’ 58% of the funding.
In terms of sector funding:
- Fintech remained the largest sector at 41% ($556 million), followed by
- Logistics & Transport at 35% ($472 million)
- Agri & Food at 7% ($93 million)
- Waste Management at 4% ($60 million), and
- Energy & Water at 4% ($50 million)
If we focus purely on equity,
- Nigeria actually came on top ($214 million) with
- Egypt second ($183 million), and
the other two some distance behind
- $66 million in South Africa, and
- $46 million in Kenya.

Beyond the Big Four, three markets attracted more than $25 million in total funding in H1 2026:
- Tanzania,
- Côte d’Ivoire, and
- Morocco.
In terms of the number of ventures raising atleast $100K, excluding grants, in H1 2026, Nigeria is back on top after an underwhelming H2 2025.
