Mercedes-Benz Korea Begins 100-Day Tech Validation with 4 South Korean Startups, Focusing on AI and 800V Wireless Charging — BigGo Finance


Mercedes-Benz Korea has commenced a roughly 100-day proof-of-concept (PoC) program with four South Korean startups. The initiative aims to validate AI-driven workplace innovation, autonomous driving verification, and next-generation EV wireless charging technologies in real business and development settings to assess commercialization potential.

Mercedes-Benz Korea announced on the 10th that it held the kickoff event for its open innovation program “Startup Autobahn Korea 2026” at Seoul Square in Jung-gu, Seoul on the 9th, officially launching collaboration with the four finalists. The selected companies are Cogcom, Wonderslab, NanoMiracle, and Bwright.

This year’s program focuses on projects that can lead to mid- to long-term R&D outcomes rather than one-off technology discovery. A notable feature is that three of the four projects are AI-based technologies.

By company, Cogcom will build an AI-based vehicle test issue management system, while Wonderslab will develop an AI-based internal work knowledge management system. NanoMiracle will test AI-based autonomous driving verification route generation technology. Bwright will validate the real-world applicability of an 800V wireless charging system for electric vehicles.

The four startups will conduct phased validation through December based on actual business and technical challenges presented by Mercedes-Benz Korea’s operational departments. Following this, the company will review final outcomes to determine actual business application, additional technology development, and potential follow-up collaboration.

A Global Open Innovation Platform in Its Seventh Year

Startup Autobahn is a global open innovation platform launched by Mercedes-Benz Group headquarters in 2016. It was introduced to South Korea in 2020 and is now in its seventh edition. Mercedes-Benz Korea has provided technology validation, commercialization, and global collaboration opportunities to 58 South Korean startups to date.

This year, Mercedes-Benz Korea further expanded its collaboration with the South Korean startup ecosystem by joining Startup Venture Campus Seoul (SVC Seoul) as an anchor company. SVC Seoul is a South Korean startup support organization, and anchor company participation is a model where large corporations serve as technology demand partners for startups, promoting open innovation.

Collaboration Projects Reorganized Around AI

The most striking change in this year’s program is the expanded emphasis on AI. While past programs focused on discovering a diverse range of startups without being limited to specific technology sectors, this year’s edition places emphasis on digital transformation across vehicle software validation and overall corporate operational efficiency.

Vehicle test issue management, internal knowledge management, and autonomous driving verification route generation are all AI solutions that can be immediately applied in automotive business settings. In particular, autonomous driving verification route generation technology is regarded as a field that can significantly reduce time and costs in the autonomous driving development phase, where vast driving scenarios must be efficiently designed.

Bwright’s 800V wireless charging system is the only non-AI project, but it is considered a key infrastructure technology for next-generation electrified models. The 800V architecture enables faster charging speeds and improved power efficiency, emerging as a critical competitive factor in the premium EV market. When combined with wireless charging technology, high-speed charging becomes possible simply by parking without a charging cable, greatly improving the EV user experience.

Mercedes-Benz Korea plans to evaluate the outcomes of each project after PoC completion and make phased decisions on actual business application, additional technology development, and potential follow-up investment and collaboration. A defining feature of this program is that it goes beyond simple technology validation, with follow-up stages designed to ensure validation results translate into actual business outcomes.

This collaboration is significant in that a global automaker is directly validating the technological capabilities of South Korean startups at its own development sites. For South Korean startups, it offers the opportunity to refine their technologies to meet the actual requirements of a global automaker and, depending on validation results, potentially gain entry into the global supply chain.
