Jakarta, Indonesia: India and Indonesia have expanded their technology and innovation partnership with new agreements covering artificial intelligence, telecommunications, digital public infrastructure, startups and space-sector collaboration.
The agreements were announced during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on July 7, 2026. The discussions focused on strengthening the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership across emerging technologies, digital connectivity, innovation ecosystems and education.
Prime Minister Modi said both countries have agreed to enhance cooperation in artificial intelligence, telecommunications and digital public infrastructure. He also said India and Indonesia will deepen collaboration between their startup ecosystems, creating new opportunities for technology-led engagement between young entrepreneurs, innovators and institutions in both countries.
The two sides also agreed to expand cooperation in the space sector through joint research, technology sharing and capacity building. The move builds on the long-standing space partnership between India and Indonesia and reflects the growing importance of advanced technologies in bilateral cooperation.
As part of the broader education and innovation partnership, Prime Minister Modi announced that the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore will establish a campus in Indonesia. The campus is expected to benefit students and young professionals across Indonesia and the wider ASEAN region, strengthening India’s higher education presence in Southeast Asia.
In another digital connectivity development, India’s Unified Payments Interface is set to be integrated with Indonesia’s payment system. The integration is expected to support easier travel, business transactions and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
The announcements underline the increasing role of technology in India-Indonesia relations, with both countries focusing on digital public infrastructure, AI, startups, education and space cooperation as key pillars of future growth. The partnership also aligns with India’s wider engagement with ASEAN and its push to expand digital and innovation-led cooperation across the Indo-Pacific region.
